The Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate (Ei) is the authority that examines the gas grid operator's monopoly position in the natural gas market.
We do this to ensure that you, as the customer, shall not pay too much and so that the gas grid operator does not exploit its monopoly position. The trade in gas is deregulated. It is, in other words, a free market.
How the Swedish natural gas network is structured
The Swedish natural gas network is built on one transmission system and several distribution systems. The network is located on the west coast. It is primarily natural gas from Denmark that is transported through the pipes.
The transmission system, the actual main pipeline, is 601 kilometers long and the distribution system has a total length of 3546 kilometers.
There are also some minor local networks in Sweden that are regulated, for instance the city and vehicle gas network in Stockholm
