The Energy Markets Inspectorate is an independent regulatory authority. The Inspectorate has almost 90 employees, most of whom are economists, lawyers or engineers.

Our departments and their tasks
Legal Department
The Legal Department is managed by a legal expert and has the responsibility of serving the inspectorate with legal advices and processes, also in court.
The Energy Markets Inspectorate participates, of behalf of Sweden, in a large amount of international energy projects on a European and a Nordic basis. The International secretariat is responsible for co-ordinating this work.

International Department

Department for Technical Analysis
The department regulates quality of supply, collects interruptions data.

Department for Tariff Regulation
The department regulates tariffs of network companies (electricity and gas).

Department for Market Analysis
The department conducts market analysis regarding the energy markets (electricity, gas, district heating). Monitors national and international research in these areas.

Department for Market Surveillance
The department presents statistics and analyses the development of the energy markets (electricity, gas, district heating). It is also responsible for national reporting to EU, consumer issues and for keeping a dialogue with consumer representatives.

Departement for Authorization and Approval
The department grants concessions for power lines and gas pipelines as well as for distribution areas. The department also settles disputes according to the electricty act on connection fees and certain other fees and renumerations.

The department has the responsibility for employment, economy, communication and IT-issues.
